STORY: MY CHILDHOOD

My name is Thomson G. Mboya. There is a lot to remember from my childhood. Since most of the things happened so fast and my intellect came to improve when I was admitted to school for the first time, most of the things I remember are from that time.

I remember being very excited to go to school and meet many children that I usually see in the television and others passing past our home with bags on their backs. It was a dream comes true. Anyway, the excitement was very short-lived especially when I realized my mother who brought me in class had left me alone with total strangers.

In time I got used to school and stop the crying and sobbing for my mother to come for me. I remember always telling stories to my mom about what happened in school.

I loved playing a lot. When I was eight years of age, I had grown with a passion for football. I used to go play with my age mates right after getting from school. I would play until late in the evening. My father was not very happy with this and he usually complained to my mother for letting me play up to late.

Some other days, I would go with my age mates as a group to hunt for birds. We usually did this for fun not knowing that early people used to hunt for food. We saw it as an interesting sport. Some other times we would trespass to restricted areas all in the name to find nice places with a lot of birds. This resulted to being chased around with security guards. Also this, we took it as fun running away from them, laughing at them and later making fun of each other.

At home, I remember bringing chaos when my mother put a little food in my plate. I would fuss until she added but all the time she did that, I still did not finish the food. I loved rice and beef a lot but she cooked chapatti every weekend since she knew it was my favourite meal. I never liked drinking porridge. Actually, it was and still is one of my worst drinks.

During holidays, my parents and I would usually go to my grandparents’ home place. In the upcountry, there was no electricity, that meant no television and no video games. Even though I did not like being there during the night because of darkness, I liked going around with my friends and relatives of my age to play and getting dirty with mud. We would also climb mango trees and eat mangoes all day.

I cannot forget the experience of morning bath, where my mom was very strict and would wash my body thoroughly and get me ready for school. She would make sure I took my breakfast and carry a snack with me to school. My father would always ask me about my homework every morning which my mother had already made sure that I had done after school, the day before before she could let me go to play.

Much of what happened in my life during that time was out of mere illusions and my parents are to be thanked. I love my parents since they have played a very big part in molding my childhood which has resulted to a young, educated, responsible and considerate man. I thank the Lord for wonderful parents.

Behind the Scenes of My Home Page

Even if I don't put much text on my home page, it's a good idea to include hidden tools that will help me promote my site, so people other than my friends and family actually see it. For example, I could add meta tags, which are hidden codes that allow search engines to find my site. I could also install stats and a counter so I know how many people are visiting. If not many are visiting, submitting my site to search engines will guide more traffic to my site.
